Great Chinese food! Their portions are massive and prices are cheap. I can easily get 2-3 meals out of my order, no matter what I choose. They also have a great variety and service is always friendly and prompt. Their crab Rangoon is the best around, and soups are nice and thick with great flavor. They also serve a pretty good breakfast!

Was very depressed to learn recently that 'Echo' Linn closed his original flag-ship Evergreen's restaurant on State Avenue in Kansas City Kansas. Many great memories there because my first job out of high school was working for Linn at Evergreen the day they opened. In fact, this was my first experience with American Chinese and their after hours Chinese dinners we would eat at closing every night. Sad to hear. The owners cut their teeth at Bo Ling's of Kansas City before venturing out on their own. So you know they received top quality training in the Chinese restaurant biz. Well, I have been to this location in Bonner Springs many times and not much has changed with their quality Chinese fare. Hands down, some of the best fried rices, chicken dishes, crab rangoon, egg rolls, and lunch specials in all of KC Metro area. Prices are dirt cheap and you get a ton of food. Sure seems like Evergreen still employs great cooks. I remember the father, uncle, and brother cooking up fantastic food in the Evergreen kitchens. In fact if I remember correctly, the younger brother had cooked in some New York Chinese restaurants. This guy was talented with the knife and wok like no other. The wife used to run the front of the house and the drive thru to perfection. Service is and was top notch. Back to the food; The plain fried, chicken, and pork rices are so good it's ridiculous. Lots of grilled white and green onions. Scrambles eggs, and the meat of your choice. Customers tend to love their shrimp fried rice as well. Most of their chicken dishes are prepared with white meats and very tender. Perfect sweet and sour sauce that is homemade daily. Moo shoo dishes are good. A real surprise are the chicken wings at Evergreen. The crab rangoons are sweet and not overly done. The egg rolls are huge and crunchy. To this day i don't understand the whole American menu at the Bonner Springs Kansas location. Hamburgers, chicken strips, french fries, etc........huh? Not 100% certain they still do this. But quite odd. At one time, Evergreen had a restaurant off 76th Metcalf but closed years ago. Now I'm hearing they closed the original in KCK. Therefore, the Bonner Springs locale is the last one. Hope they stick it out for years to come. Evergreen is a fantastic option if you're out in that area of Kansas.

Well, I'm not completely sure why this restaurant hosts online ordering. I arrived to the window 5 minutes after my estimated ready time. There was one car already there and it did not move for 20 minutes. I was trapped by the another car behind me. I waited in line for the same amount of time that I was promised it took to get it ready in the first place. Boo! And I guess expressing my disappointment to them is ineffectual because of the language barrier. It's not I'm going to get a chance with the chat with the customer service manager or anything...

I visited Evergreen on a slow Sunday afternoon based on the Yelp ratings (I had not yet read the reviews). The exterior looked a little dated and poorly maintained, but the inside looked clean and well-cared for. I was the only one there for a large portion of my visit. Another table of customers came in half-way through my meal. The service was very attentive. My tea glass did not go empty. The menu had some featured items, one of which caught my eye - the Spicy Triple Curry Combo, which the menu described as Chicken, Shrimp, and beef simmered with white onion in rich potato curry sauce. I ordered it, and read the Yelp reviews while I waited. The reviews (only three of them) indicated I could expect large quantities of great food at a great price. They were not kidding. Within five minutes of placing my order, a large plate of the spicy triple curry was hot on the table and looked just as the menu described it. It was served with a large bowl of white rice. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, as was the chicken. The beef had just a little chew to it, but tasted great. I'm a chilehead, so when the menu describes something as spicy I am usually disappointed, but this dish had a nice heat to it. Even though I was pretty hungry going in, I had to get a take-home box for about half the dish. This little gem in Bonner Springs has great service, great food and is a great value. I will be going there again.

I have been dining here for about 10 years now. That should say a little something about the food. If it can survive for that long, something is bringing the folks back. I have never used their carry out service, but they do have a drive thru window...Very handy on those days when its cold....or you are just too lazy to park and go in. (we've all had those; right?) The menu is standard oriental fare, with some surprises. Chicken Fried Steak is one of them. Someday I will have to try that, but the Chinese food is too good to think about straying from the beloved. If you are dining with others, they have a family style menu that come with a complete and loaded appetizer platter, (some places call it a poo poo platter, others a bo bo, you choose), soup, rice and entrees for each person. for $9.95. The entrees are from a limited list but it includes most of the Americanized/Chinese favorites like Cashew Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Mongolian Beef, Sweet and sour. This is an incredible bargain. the soup arrives first (Hot and Sour, Egg Drop, Won ton). These selections can waiver in how they taste from visit to visit. I'm not sure if its different cooks, how fresh the pot of soup is, or just my taste buds. Never had a bad bowl, just that sometimes they are more flavorful than others. But don't waste too much time with filling up on the soup. The large starter platter arrives, laden with crab rangoons, egg rolls, chicken wings, bbq ribs, a skewer of beef with pineapple to grill on the flame pot that is in the center of your platter, and a little morsel they call a phoenix. This seems to be a hollowed out chicken breast with shrimp inside, that is tempura battered and fried.By the time you work on all this, you are ready to box up your entree for tomorrows lunch. But alas, you dig in. I don't usually order anything with shrimp or seafood, so this family style works well for me. If you are a lover of the more exotic type of Chinese entrees, I don't think they will substitute for the same price, you may want to just order off the menu. Being the cheapskate that I am, I lean toward the bargain "all inclusive" prices. Have never had a bad meal here, meat is always fresh be it chicken, beef or pork. Vegetables are too. Spices are not overdone, but detectable. The entrees that arrive are large enough to feed everyone in your party from the same dish. Unless you are completely starving when you go it. Plan on taking home left overs. The wait staff is constantly on the move, in fact we almost always get the same young lady, everytime we go. You will not wait for a refill on your drinks, which is a pet peeve of mine. One of the best ways to lose a tip, is to ignore the refills. Atmosphere is simple, yet inviting. Everything is very casual and family friendly. Definitely worth a look.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
